Donor Bill of Rights

PHILANTHROPY is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  1. To be informed of Sacred People Foundation’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes. To this end, Sacred People Foundation will provide transparency, honesty and full disclosure regarding the actual impact of nonprofits’ its’ work including our failures and shortcomings (as well as successes) in achieving our mission.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on Sacred People Foundation’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to Sacred People Foundation's most recent financial statements and IRS filings, which will be provided by Sacred People Foundation to donors and prospective donors upon request and which on websites that Sacred People Foundation will make known.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law, and to protect each donor’s privacy, including internal management and technology controls to prevent inadvertent or unwanted disclosure of personal information.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of Sacred People Foundation or its hired solicitors.
  9. That professional advisors, consultants, referral sources or any others seeking to influence a donor’s philanthropic decision will inform the donor of any conflicts of interest, referral fees, dual retention arrangements or other such agreements.
  10. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that Sacred People Foundation may intend to share.
  11. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

Choice of Law; Arbitration; Attorney Fees
This interpretation and enforcement of our Terms of Service and any disputes with us or any associated person arising out of or relating to our Terms of Service or use of Our Website (“Disputes”) shall be governed by Connecticut law, excluding conflicts of law principles. Any Disputes shall be resolved by final and binding arbitration under the rules and auspices of the American Arbitration Association, to be held in Connecticut, with a written decision stating the legal reasoning therefor, issued by the arbitrator(s) at either party’s request, and with arbitration fees and reasonable attorneys’ fees of both parties to be borne by the party that ultimately loses.
